Wait List FAQ

1. What are my actual chances of getting off the waitlist?
Acceptance rates from waitlists vary depending on institutional needs and the year.  If fewer admitted students enroll than expected, more waitlisted students get called and have the potential to be admitted.

2. Should I accept my spot on the waitlist or consider other options?
You should accept only if you would genuinely choose 58ºÚÁÏÍø over your other options. Although there is no penalty for staying on, it is also recommended that you commit to a backup school by May 1.

3. What is the deadline to accept my waitlist spot?
The deadline for opting into the waitlist is April 7, 2026.

4. Will sending additional materials (letters, updates, essays) help my chances?
Absolutely!  This shows demonstrated interest, allowing you to tell us what you have done to strengthen your candidacy since your initial submission.  Remember, quality over quantity is key, and this should be done through your SCU Portal.

7. When will I hear back from the waitlist?
This may vary.  However, most decisions will be released between late April and June.

8. Is the waitlist ranked?
No.

9. What factors determine who gets pulled off the waitlist?
Multiple factors will be taken into consideration, such as major, interests, and special talents, to name a few.

10. Can I update my major preference or switch schools (e.g., from Engineering to Arts & Sciences) to improve my waitlist chances?
Yes, but switching intended majors for strategic purposes is not advised. When requesting a change, it should truly be something you are passionate about.

11. Can I still apply for financial aid if I get off the waitlist?
Waitlist admits may receive financial aid offers. During this phase, we prioritize demonstrated need, but all aid available, merit and need-based at the time of admission is considered. Typically, the majority of the aid budget is allocated by the time we exercise the waitlist.

12. Can I still get Housing if I am on the waitlist?
Yes.  We work closely with the housing department as we consider all candidates on the waitlist. It is important to note that there is a 2-year housing requirement.

13. What about Orientation?
Everyone will have access to an Orientation session. We ask that all waitlisted students be flexible with dates and know that everyone will find a course load that will align with their intended majors.

14. Can I send updated or final transcripts as part of my waitlist review?
Yes!
