Flower Power | A Postcard from the Garden

Postcards from the Garden are our way of keeping connected to the children and classrooms participating in our food justice program.

Upcycle an old shoe or boot, by turning it into a plant pot! Make sure to plant non-edible plants in a shoe. Succulents are a beautiful decorative choice. Old crates, dresser drawers, and other common household items can have a second life as a planter, and these might be better choices for edible plants.

Some Fun Activities to Get Growing With!

Watch this created by students in Urban Agriculture Fall ‘20 to learn how to turn a water bottle into a watering can! This fun craft definitely requires adult supervision, so make sure to find a grown-up to help. We suggest using your watering can on a walk to give a little water to a patch of earth that has flowers growing.

A fun way to get creative on your next walk is to use a Nature Frame. This simple craft curated by created Environmental Science major, Vanessa ‘21 captures the beautiful blooms, in a different perspective. Instead of stopping to smell the roses, you can create art with them too!
